David Lee Maulsby (1859-circa 1923) was born in Baltimore, Maryland, January 30, 1859. Leaving high school early, from 1873 to 1879 he worked as clerk and then as bookkeeper. In the fall of 1879 he entered Tufts Divinity School, but after spending two years there and preaching for one summer vacation, he decided to prepare instead for the College of Letters. He entered Tufts in the fall of 1883, and was graduated in 1887.
