An Investigation of Negative Energy Densities in Quantum Field Theory: Diagonalization Method and Worked Examples

In this thesis we seek to further examine the phenomenon of negative energy densities in quantum field theory. We construct a diagonalization method for finding maximally negative energy states, and work through examples of how quantum inequalities are applied to systems.
