The Center for Interdisciplinary Studies at Tufts University was established in June, 1992 to bring interdisciplinary programs together under a unifying administration. It aimed to spark joint endeavors, support and develop interdisciplinary teaching, and create new methods and opportunities for faculty development. These opportunities included lectures, workshops, and extended programs such as the Sommerville Conversations.
