The ultimate goal of the research is to bridge the gap between two sets of conflict analyses and provide a more comprehensive view of environmental security. This thesis concludes that a better understanding of the relationship between gender and environmental management is necessary for designing effective policies and programs for environmental sustainability by promoting involvement of all stakeholders. If environmental management is key for preventing conflicts, then a gender-neutral policy approach to environmental conflict is flawed from the outset. Gender mainstreaming in environmental conflicts is a necessary policy prescription for achieving sustainable peace and security and promoting gender equality and women's empowerment.read less
