  • This date is approximate. 8 x 10, photographic print. The first Visiting Nurse Association in New England was organized in boston in 1886. The first nurse, with an office at the Bosgton Dispensary, accompanied a district doctor on his rounds. By 1891, each of the five districts had a staff nurse. Today, the Association's large staff includes more than 70 nurses.
