Abstract: Submitted in partial fulfillment of the degree of Master of Arts in Law and Diplomacy at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy. Abstract: This paper examines what impacts, if any, the petroleum acquisition policies and strategies of the People's Republic of China are having on those of the United States and Japan. By focusing on various case studies involving the interest of the three countries in widely-ranging energy assets, the paper seeks to understand the repercussions of China's growing petroleum needs and the possible international responses to them.
