Originally founded within the Experimental College in 1982 as the Communications Cluster, the Communications and Media Studies was established in 1985. In 1996, it won approval as an interdisciplinary minor. As of 2012, it is an interdisciplinary program designed to educate Tufts students about mass media and communications within a liberal arts curriculum. There are three minor degrees associated with the program: Mass Communications & Media Studies Minor, Film Studies, and Multimedia Arts.
