Allan MacLeod Cormack (1924-1998) joined Tufts in 1957 as a professor in the Department of Physics. A faculty member for 22 years, he received the Ballou Medal in 1978, and won the 1979 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for his work developing the computerized axial tomography (CAT) scan.
